The Valley
You braved the toughest winds
And mocked the droplets
Of crimson from your feet
As we climbed to the top
Of the valley’s crown.
You let the scarlet tears
Of your soles swim
Down as you lifted me
To catch the sun.
It had been a long night.
With a secret rhythm
We danced on the valley’s
Belly that was gentle
And endless.
But afternoon came
And the journey
Down the same path
Had yet to be done.
I never wanted to go back.
Dusk came
With a surprise elegy.
I traced the trail of
Crimson that you left
But it only stopped where
My feet had nested.
You were gone.
And down I went
With no light to
Show me the way.
Thorns tugged my skin
And the wind stole
My breath.
I looked back but
The valley was suddenly
Too far away.
And I saw you.
But you were gone.
